TIRZEPATIDE / U.S. MEDICATION COSTS

Mounjaro costswith & without insurance

Mounjaro has separate paths for covered commercial prescriptions, commercially insured patients without drug coverage, and LillyDirect self-pay purchases. The eligibility rules differ even when advertised prices look similar.

Manufacturer pricing reviewed

Mounjaro contains tirzepatide and is used for type 2 diabetes and other labeled indications. Do not apply Zepbound’s weight-management offers to Mounjaro; its savings programs require an approved-use prescription. Manufacturer information ↗

Published manufacturer-program prices in USD. These are not universal retail prices or complete care packages. A prescription is required; ask the pharmacy to confirm eligibility and the amount due.

Having insurance does not guarantee that a specific prescription is covered. Ask for the patient charge after the plan processes the prescription, then check whether a savings offer can apply.

Coverage and savings are separate questions
Covered commercial insurance + eligible cardAs low as $25 for a one-, two- or three-month single-dose-pen fill. Savings capped at $150 / $300 / $450 respectively, $1,950 annually and 13 fills. Source ↗
Commercial insurance without Mounjaro coverageEligible card price as low as $499 per 28-day fill, with maximum savings of $647 per month and $8,411 per year, up to 13 fills. This requires commercial insurance. Source ↗
No insuranceThe commercial card is not an uninsured benefit. Check the distinct LillyDirect self-pay route and its current terms. Source ↗
Medicare, Medicaid or other government coverageThe commercial card excludes government beneficiaries. Ask your plan what it covers and what you owe; a separate self-pay purchase does not count toward insurance spending limits. Source ↗

The commercial savings card requires eligible adult U.S./Puerto Rico residency, commercial drug insurance and an approved-use prescription, excludes government beneficiaries, and expires December 31, 2026. Its price minimum is subject to the benefit limits; it is not insurance. Source ↗

Commercial savings-card eligibility generally excludes government beneficiaries and requires other program conditions. A separate manufacturer cash-pay offer can have different rules. Do not assume coupons can be combined or that cash purchases count toward plan spending limits.

WHY “AS LOW AS” IS NOT A QUOTE

An illustrated $150 patient payment

Hypothetical charge after insurance
$300
Maximum one-month savings in this example
−$150
Remaining medication payment
$150

A hypothetical $300 patient charge on an eligible covered one-month fill minus the full $150 benefit leaves $150. The card cannot reduce every bill to its advertised $25 minimum. Savings terms ↗

Illustration assumes full eligibility, the entire stated benefit remains available and the pharmacy applies it. It excludes clinical care and other charges.

What changes the total cost?

Two different offers can advertise $499. One is a commercial savings-card route for people whose plan does not cover Mounjaro; the other is a direct self-pay purchase. Confirm which one the pharmacy is using and which restrictions follow that transaction. If a longer prescription is clinically appropriate, ask whether your plan and pharmacy allow that quantity before assuming a three-month card price is available.

Keep care and medication on separate lines

Ask about consultation charges, recurring memberships, follow-up appointments, laboratory work, delivery, injection supplies and taxes. An unlisted charge is not automatically included. Compare the care-provider fee guides, then use the payment budget to add the invoices actually due.

Before you pay

  • Is the quoted $499 price a commercial-card offer or LillyDirect self-pay?
  • How much of my card’s annual savings limit remains?
  • Would a cash purchase count toward my plan’s spending limits under this program?
